| Modder-ator | Newegg Link... Yeah, $235! I really REALLY hope this is just an inflated price for early buyers. If nVidia's chipsets are really this expensive, then it might be time to start buying ATI... Anyone else see any pricing indications for AM2 motherboards (be it nVidia or ATI)? |

| I'm Evil | AS I've been saying....hold off on the AM2 for awhile. First of all, predictably, the performance is nothing to get excited about....like socket 939 before it there is bound to be some bugs.... Second, I figure that the AM2 release will mean a drop in prices across the board for socket 939 components, which should make them very attractive, and a good option for the next 6-12 months. | I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Relax junior, prices will settle down as the summer kicks into high gear and more options flood the market. The inflated pricetags are for the 'benefit' of early adopters that are too impatient for Conroe and have a heavy wallet that weighs them down. :P |

The only thing that gets me worked up is that the processors are available at Monarch already available and the launch has prettymuch happened for the most part. I know the Asus board is one of the few (if not the only) ATX AM2 board available at the moment, but that is still a very inflated price for an actual launch, not preorder. I remember the first Asus SLI board for s939 was available for pre-order at about $230 or so, but it quickly dropped when things were actually launched. Now that the processors are available, reviews are up, and the launch has begun, Iit just worries me that there isn't much happening with the motherboards. | |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | This isn't an unusually inflated price though, at least not for this particular chipset. Keep in mind that the nVidia 590 chipset on the M2N32-SLI Deluxe utilizes 2x16 PCI-E, same as the A8N32-SLI, instead of 2x8. While the A8N32-SLI now sells for just under $200 shipped, I paid $259 ($275 shipped) for that mobo back at the end of December '05: ![]() |

| I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal. | Saying $200 is too expensive for an enthusiast level motherboard (as a blanket statement) can be refuted because: A) Enthusiasts are willing to pay the price, and B) It's not out of the ordinary for a new release, which means that the debut price is nothing to panic over. If anything, it can be taken as a good sign that the top level chipset is debuting at a less expensive price point than the previous top level chipset did. C) Not all AM2 motherboards will be priced at that level. This is a top level chipset, and it's going to command the top level price. It shouldn't be read as an indication that AM2 motherboards are going to be any more expensive than previous sockets. ASRock will inevitably come out with a sub-$100 option, and others will fill the gap at every price point in between. I personally agree that 2 C-notes is awfully high to pay for a motherboard, but then again, I paid $275 for that core foundation when piecing together my own dream machine... |

| Modder-ator | Well, I didn't mean for it to be a blanket statement; it was more of an opinion. This is also an opinion that I think many other "enthusiasts" would share and just as many "enthusiasts" would disagree with. I just started the thread out with an opinion (seeing as there are lots of people with different income levels and technology adoption strategies) but tried to place the subject on how expensive these chipsets/motherboards will be when prices settle. I'm not mad at Asus or nVidia or AMD (or you Paul), I was just trying to post information about this new product/technology for others to see, give my opinion, and open the thread up for discussion about pricing of the chipset/motherboards... |

| I'm Evil | I still believe the best course of action is to hold off until Conroe hits the streets...It will force one of two things to happen...one, people will have a viable alternative to the AMD monopoly thats taken hold over the last 18-24 months....and two, it will force AMD to up the anty and release a better product. When people were screaming for the FX60 awhile back, AMD was in no hurry, because there was nothing on the market to even remotely compete with what AMD was already peddling...why compete with yourself? In the end I believe that once Conroe hits the streets, we'll see a totally different game from both chip makers.....and hopefully a much more balanced playing field.
