Default Argh ... clearing CMOS

I got an EVGA LGA 7100 Micro ATX Motherboard
for a cheapo gift build ... and after making some easy tweaks ... it won't post.

Tried all I know of clearing the CMOS ... its gona sit tonight unplugged and without battery.

It was working fine ... and will if the stupid cmos would clear.

Any suggestions or tricks?

Removing the battery is good I think. It's all I can do on my board, the jumpers under the card... Who's idea was that? stupid gigabyte board design

Usually clearing the CMOS involves removing the battery, switching a CLR_CMOS jumper for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then putting the jumper back to the original pins and putting the battery back in. Often times though you can successfully clear the CMOS by just removing the battery for a minute or so without messing with the jumpers, but you should follow the steps according to your motherboard manual to be sure.

If you're sure you've correctly cleared the CMOS and it still won't POST, then you need to move on and troubleshoot your power supply and motherboard. Do you get any codes on the onboard LED's on the motherboard?

in some cases when you go through the steps of overlocking, I hook up the reset button from the case itself onto the pins and just use that temporarily

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Wow, ive never actually thought of that. Nice trick

But what happens if you press it while the PC's on by accident? (please don't try it now )

Done all that ... even tried putting a different CPU in to trick it into re-setting.

All my tricks are used up ... any new ones for clearing a stubborn CMOS?

If none of thats worked, then i'd look at the power supply and the motherboard, one stick of RAM ect.. all that should have cleared the CMOS

It should have for sure ... I have run into ones that do get "stuck" I don't know how ... but they do.

It posted great until I re-set bios specific to my hardware.

Trying it with a new PSU now ... not good on the first run.

Is the board showing any diagnostic codes on the little LED display?
