| Colonel Calamity | socket 754 is dead... the only time it should be used is with an existing system where the motherboard may have died and just looking to replace it... otherwise you are better off stepping up to at least a socket 939 processor/motherboard but that is also on its way out. At least with socket 939 you can use your existing DDR memory versus the newer AM2 setup requires DDR2 memory which is a completely different type. If you do decide to step up to AM2, you might as well spend the same amount and go with a Intel Socket775LGA as it takes DDR2 as well but the performance of the current Intel chips just blow away almost anything AMD has to offer right now ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Colonel Calamity | also one more thing, if you do decide to stick with socket 754, get one with the nvidia nForce chipset, the ones with VIA and SiS are nothing but problems. One option is this for $50US: Newegg.com - ASRock K8NF6G-VSTA Socket 754 NVIDIA GeForce 6100-405 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | well I bought a Biostar VIA K8M800 Socket 754 mATX MB with the AMD 64 +3000 already installed after buying it (because of budget) I notice that it only has enough room for 2GB of ram and for what the computer would be used for I don't think that much ram would be suitable as this compter I'm building. Because it will be for recording music onto it and also most of my business stuff will be on this computer. If I could find a MB that would support the CPU that would be great if not oh well 754 is what I have to stick with I guess Matt |

| I'm Diggin it! | There are very few instances in the home where 2Gb of memory won't be enough. I can edit 700+Mb video files, two or three open at one time, without getting near critical on memory.
