ACHI and P965 Question

I hav a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 (rev 3.3), in the BIOS it gives the option to turn on ACHI for both SATA controllers. The various articles I have read indicate that the ICH8 does not support ACHI. My question is which setting should I be using, IDE or ACHI?

I would personally use "IDE".....so people say "AHCI" (Advanced Host Controller Interface) makes for slightly better performance, but I've never noticed any. Also, if you have already installed your OS using one, you can't switch to the other without a complete re-install, unless you feel like using a floppy and re-installing the corect drivers (which I recommend against).

Okay I already did the system as ACHI so I will leave it as is. I have turned off the Gigabyte SATAII since I am only using two SATA devices. OR, am I better off using the Gigabyte connections? The reviews I have been directed to show the Intel ones are a little faster.

Next question is the Smart Fan choice, I have the option of Auto for Smart fan or to use an Intel system for Fan speed.

(I am hoping others with this baord have already gone through a lot of this and so can save the time of doing a lot of specific setting tests.)
