Default 4-pin to 8-pin CPU power?

Assembling my new HTPC yesterday, and I am using a 590 board and a hiper 580w modular PSU. The problem I ran into was the new motherboard requires a 8 pin 12v connection to it, but the hiper PSU does not come with one. The manual for the foxconn says you can use a 4 pin but recommends an 8 pin. My question is will it hurt anything by just using the 4 pin lead?

No it won't. 8 pin would be optimal, and maybe a little more important if you were overclocking, but for what you have in mind, a 4 pin connector will work fine

You will need a Hiper HLC-2M1P-15 adapter.

you don't HAVE to use an adapter.....a 4 pin PSU will work fine in almost any motherboard with an 8 pin plugin. I've never had a problem using a quality PSU with 4 pins in an 8 pin motherboard
