Default Super Talent T1000UX2G5 2GB PC2-8000 memory

DDR2 memory technology has been pushing the envelope in terms of memory clock speeds and tighter latencies as of late. Many enthusiasts were pleased when clock speeds hit the 800MHz mark last year, but Super Talent has eclipsed this mark with its 1GHz 2GB kit we'll be looking at today, ...

Stuff is fast. DDR2 benefits greater from lower timings then higher freq. Best thing to do with a new set of DDR2, if you want to get more performance out of it is to set freq to default, bump of the vDDR2 and tighten the timings. From here then preced to OC. Those sticks in the review could probably do DDR2-1000mhz with 4-4-4-12 with a bump in voltage....
Hell some Corsair 8000UL does 3-2-2-8 1000mhz, but with like 2.9v!!!!!!!!!
My Mushkin 6400 SPD 5-3-3-8 does 4-3-3-8 @ 960mhz with roughly 2.5v.

The subject of memory latency vs. speed on DDR1 and DDR2 platforms is a very interesting one.
Anandtech has some very interesting charts in their First Look: AM2 DDR2 vs. 939 DDR Performance article...

Looks like you will need at least CAS latency 3 DDR2 800 in order to keep pace with DDR400 2-2-2 RAM. When I go DDR2, it's gonna be DDR2 800 or bust!

I guess that is on AMD.

Currently all DDR2-800 that will run 3-3-3-8(or tighter) timings cost atleast 450.00 for a 2gb kit, and 300 for a 1 gb kit. There are actually only a few kits that will do it, those built with the D9 'fatboy' ICs.

OOOF, I suppose you have a good point there. I didn't know those DDR-2800 memory kits were so expensive!
It's still interesting though how a sub-$200 DDR400 memory kit can compete as well as a $300 DDR2-800 kit... Kinda makes me not want to let go of my DDR!

You know what, I can't even find any CAS latency 3 DDR2-800 RAM! It's all CAS 4 or 5.... AnandTech really should have compared CAS 4 DDR2-800 with CAS 2 DDR400 and it would have been a better comparison. Especially considering the DDR2 RAM they used costs over $450!
I don't think I'm very excited about DDR2 yet........... :?
