| just about to start overclocking (I'm new to it all) and was wondering if the RAM that ive got will overclock very well, its DDR2 800 a-data vitesta stuff that i bought in Hong Kong when i was over there recently. not sure what the timings are on them, but I'm guessing nothing special as it was fairly cheap, any help appreciated, thanks |

| 5 Minute Mod Man | Especially when you have no idea what other people have OCed at, I would say the best thing to do is to take baby steps, increasing your ram speed little by little in the bios. Make sure that it is stable each time and then if you feel comfortable, increase it a little more. Most people OC by trial and error anyway. Sometimes what other people have OCed at you can use as a good guide, but two 'identical' sticks from the same company will not be guaranteed to OC at any specific speed... Just don't increase the voltage to it unless A) someone is able to verify that the increased voltage won't damage the ram & B) you are willing to risk possible damage... |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | A-Data stuff is usually pretty cheap stuff for a reason. I'd be willing to bet there is very little overclocking headroom to that kit..... Start out with the default voltages, and slowly bump up the FSB maybe 5MHz at a time, stop and run Memtest86+ (a good gauge for stability is test #5), if it'll pass test #5, bump it again and go until it fails. then boot into windows and run Super Pi v1.7 to 32M places...if it fails, back off a few MHz. Once you find the max, you can bump the voltages a bit, balance your CPU voltage and VDIMM, don't exceed 1.5v on the CPU or 2.1v on them memory (safe voltages that won't damage you components). INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU |
