Default ram mixing question

Hello fellas,

I'm wondering if it's a good move to mix different brands of RAM in my system.

2gb Mushkin extreme XP4000 (PC3200) DDR (3-4-3-8) I have now, and this:

2gb Corsair Value Select PC3200 DDR (3-3-3-8)

The corsair is super cheap--like $25 bucks. Is it even worth it?

Thanks
C

AMD Athlon64 X2 3800 (Manchester) @ 2500
ATI A8R-MVP
2gb Mushkin extreme XP4000 DDR @ 250*2 (3-4-3-8)
Geforce 8800gt 512
Coolermaster Praetorian 730/Aquagate Mini R80

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Welcome again ccarroll321!!! Corsair value select is pretty darn good ram to be honest! The main problem that I can really see, the Mushkin extreme is PC4000, not pc3200. Therefore you are going to choke that ram down by installing the pc3200 Corsair ram!

My CPUZ says the ram is PC3200 (200mhz). I've never been able to figure out why. You think it's even worth upgrading my system anymore?

You may need to manually set your ram to the correct speed in your BIOS.

As far as upgrading, it all depends, if your current system is still meeting your needs, but is just a bit sluggish, the additional ram might make you happy. Of course, as cheap as current hardware is you could upgrade to a Core2Duo based system for just a couple hundred dollars.
