Default OCZ gold 2 x 2 = 4 gig ram pc2-4200

ocz's 4 gig mem unit. www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_4200_gold_dual_channel

And it comes with a large price tag. 900 dollars at NCIX.

One comes to think weather or not 4 gigs of ram is worth a flagship cpu. o_O

*shrug* For most desktop applications including gaming, 4 gb of ram is almost overkill. It will certainly give you good performance but that much is not needed. Though we can certainly expect 4 gb of ram to be required in the future.

Is it worth a flagship cpu? Depends on what you do...

I Like Watercooling. D-Tek Fuzion, MCP655, MCR220

almost overkill? It most certainly is overkill in my mind. 2GB barely improves performance, let alone 4GB. And the latencies will be so low and I'm sure you have to run it all at 2T as well. I would much rather take an FX-60 over 4GB of RAM....

You can say that again !!

I have to admit I do like running 2gig's in my rigs now especially for gaming but I just couldnt see the use for 4gig's.. !!

2GB totally rocks and is plenty to run any new game. IMO the average computer user has no need for 4gb.
On the otherhand if you are into photoshop and such, 4gb would be more valuable.

It wasn't all that long ago that 1 gig was considered all you'd need. IMHO I'll take a proc. over that ram any day.

The one kit of OCZ memory I've ever owned was the PC2-4200 EL Rev 2 Platinum rated for 533mhz 3-2-2-8. The 2 sticks came with the heaviest copper heatspreaders ever! These sticks weighed almost a pound! They overclocked amazingly, to DDR2-667 w\ 3-2-2-6 and this was on 2.3v.

I can attest to OCZ making some of the best memory available.

For a person who needs 4gb, this kit is probably one of the best, for 980.00!.

They made 4GB kits because most developers are saying that Vista's going to snag a LOT of memory. On top of that, when you run things like Oblivion or Photoshop and kill your memory supply, you're going to need more than the 1GB that's recommended.

They're saying for power users to get 4GB. I think that's a waste of money. I'll probably grab another GB of Corsair ValueSelect when the time comes around for my D9100.

- Core 2 Quad Q6600
- DFI Infinity 975X
- 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800
- 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM
- ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB
- Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W
- Acer 19" P191W Monitor
- Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution
- Vista Ultimate x64
