| How often is it that you have to re-flash the SPDs on your ram modules? Well I had to. I was encoding a video, and decided to see how lowering the CPU speed using an app to control the multiplier would affect the encode time. Well when I dropped the multiplier, the system locked up, and I apparently had 4 dead sticks of ram. After a little bit of messing around, I got the system to boot with two sticks. After consulting a friend, he told me that the SPDs were probably just corrupted, and that I should reflash them. He linked me to a reflashing tool and off I went. The hard part was actually getting a whole functional SPD off one of the ram sticks. After a few reboots, I got a working SPD file, I saved it, then reflash the two sticks. After that flashing I did not have another problem. Now the problem was flashing the other two sticks. If I put the corrupted sticks in, it wouldn't post, and If I put a corrupted stick and a good stick in a certain way, it wouldn't post. However, my friend said that if I put the working stick in the ram slot that initializes first, and the corrupted stick in another slot, it will post and operate normally. So, I arranged the sticks in proper order, and lo-and-behold , the rig boots normally. I start up the SPD flasher, and successfully reflash all the ram's SPDs, and haven't had any problems since. Well, it was kind of interesting bringing apparently dead sticks of RAM back to life, especially using just sotware. | this sounds interesting. I think i'm going to try this on my "dead sticks" of ram as well. It is worth a shot. E2140 @ 375 x 8 = 3.0ghz 2x1 ocz system 1337s pc2-6400 5-5-5-15 @ 450mhz gigabyte P35 S3L eVGA 7600GT Stock 120 gig seagate ULTRA X-Finity 600w Sonata 2 w/ top fan G5 Lazer Mouse |

| If the ram errors, then its not going to work. Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 |

| The RAM is either dead, or has a bad SPD. You need to find out which slot initializes first, put a good stick of ram in there, then the corrupted stick in another slot. Then find the corupted stick's SPD, and reflash it. Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 |
