Default Mushkin Redline XP2-8000 4GB Memory Kit Review

Click the image to open in full size.

Redline. A term coined from pushing a car to it's breaking point, where the tachometer strains all the way over to the red in an effort to warn it's careless driver: TOO FAST! But speed is something we covet with our rigs, and Mushkin has aptly named it's new high performance RAM for that breaking point we so desperately try to exceed. But the big question is how well does this kit push it to the limit? Will the Redline series be fit for the Autobahn of the overclocking arena, or is back to puttering down Main Street for Mushkin? Read on as we try to break barriers and avoid speeding tickets with the Redline 4GB kit!

Good review and good product. Not the best, not the worst. It's a good thing that it's versatile, but I'd prefer to see a higher frequency. "Slower" rated DDR2 4GB kits are extremely hard to get past the 1066mhz barrier, and if you want to buy a 1066mhz one you often have to pay a certain premium over a DDR800 or DDR1000 kit from the same brand and series.

for the price, wouldn't the better suggestion be to go with something like DDR2-1066 that has higher speeds with the same timings?

Newegg.com - mushkin 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

I know my 1066 can get up to around 1180 stable.

Not sure how a link to a 2GB kit factors into that discussion, but yes, there are attractively priced 4GB DDR2-1066 kits to choose from as well - LINK

Hmmm seems to me the MB might have been a limiting factor. The P5W DH was never a good memory overclocker. I'd expect at least 100mhz OC from a .25v increase...

Nah I don't think the P5W DH was limiting it that much, if it did. Most current 800 to 1000mhz kit seem to hit a wall at ~1040 5-5-5-15.
