Default Memory Standard???

Thanks in advance for anyone who decides to help me on this. Every motherboard has a memory standard, and the board I'm looking at says DDR3 2000(OC)/1800(OC)/1333. I cannot afford DDR3 RAM. Do I need to consider a different board, or will DDR2 suffice?

DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 are completely incompatible with each other. Since that board uses DDR3, you'll have to go with a DDR2 based board. X38, 780i, 750i, and P35 are good choices for DDR2 based boards. Sometimes you can find a hybrid board, one that has both DDR2 and DDR3 slots, but these usually under perform with DDR3 and are limited in the amount you can use.

What board are you looking at that takes DDR3? Are there compelling reasons that you must have this particular DDR3 motherboard?

DDR3 can be had for $100 (1G x 2) while DDR2 is about $75 and some rebates. It's not ultra expensive. Really only the upper tier is ultra expensive...as expected really.

Here's some CAS7 for $86 after rebates and shipping

So reconsider it?
