Default Jiggly Wiggly Memory

My system's shut down on me twice tonight. Thermal grease again? No. Overheating? No. The answer: The two fans on my motherboard are shaking the RAM stick loose! Have any of you ever experienced this bizarre problem before?

Yea, your wings (is that what penguins have?) aren't meant for building. I'll have Bill Gates drop by and help secure the DIMMs for you.

Yes, that must be it :P

I can't wait until I can afford a 2GB kit of XMS. It'll be a while, but it'll be a very merry Christmas in July when I do =D

find a rubber band that wraps the length of the memory perfectly and keep the wings on tight

Thanks HL and Corsair!

The rubberbands will dry and break.

MPC trusted their hard drives with rubber bands. Remember? I wouldn't though. They also had a lot of people write in complaining about that guide.

With the right rubber bands, that shouldn't be a problem, particularly since we all know to check our systems at least once in awhile for maintenance (dust bunnies, wiring, etc).

But as to your problem, this is something you want to rectified ASAP Yuri. I can't stress enough how bad it is to have your system restart or shutdown due to RAM coming out of the slot while turned on. At best, the restarts will continue, but at worst, you're risking component damage, including your motherboard.

Have you made sure that the RAM is pushed completely down? If the retention clips snap into place, this shouldn't be happening, regardless of which fans are running. Make sure that they're snapping into the grooves, and not just appearing that way.

Well, they always seem to be secure, but the ghosts in my room keep unclipping them. (At least, that's the excuse I'd use if you were my mom )

If they're truly coming unclipped after being fully secure (and I have my doubts here), you can put a dab of hot glue to keep them in place. I hate to even suggest it though, with your recent incident of bathing your motherboard in thermal grease.
