Default CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2

In the near future, I'm going to be upgrading the RAM in my wife's computer to DDR2, in order to give her system a boost for video editing. Her board has support for both DDR and DDR2. The DDR2 supports up to 400/533 speeds, and I was looking at this set. I'm also getting a 500GB HDD like this one for good measure. Is a CAS of 4 decent for this type of RAM? I don't know what to look for in the case of timings on DDR2.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

I think that's basically what the value RAM is going to run at. DDR2 is able to run CAS 4 pretty easily up to DDR2-800, so it is relatively slow for only DDR2-533. But for that price, you really can't complain

As for the hard drive, why not go for the 7200.10 with better performance for the same price but free shipping?

I'm looking at the 533 because her board won't support faster speeds. But even if it's slow for DDR2, it's still faster than the PC3200 she has now.

And thanks for that link...just another option to consider.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that RAM. It's value RAM so it's designed to be inexpensive, not fast. If you are just looking for some DDR2-533 RAM at the lowest possible cost, that would have been my recommendation as well
