Default Choosing The Right Memory

I know there's got to be a topic on this somewhere in here, but I can't seem to find it by searching, so I'll go ahead and be 'that guy' and start a new thread =/ ...

Based on my tentative 680i board, I plan on getting 2GB of DDR2, most likely OCZ, but I'm open to any suggestions and I'm not particularly biased to that company (I've just had really good experiences with OCZ). My big questions are: What latency and timings? Is lower always better? I don't plan on overclocking it, so that might narrow the search a bit. I heard somewhere through word-of-mouth that your memory speed should match your FSB speed, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. To be honest, this is really the only aspect of any system hardware-wise where I truly feel like I'm shooting an arrow in the dark when making a decision on what to buy. Again, I'm sorry if this has been previously discussed in detail and even just a link to the specific thread will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Default Re: Choosing The Right Memory

I'm not sure where to point you :(

OCZ is a great brand, you could also consider G.Skill and Corsair. I've also had luck with Kingston.

Yea, your memory SHOULD match your bus speed, but this is really just for performance purposes. The 680i supports DDR2-800, so you should buy DDR2-800. Don't worry, it will still kick ass left and right >=D

As for latency and timings, tighter timings are better, but if your overclocking, don't sweat it. memory frequency > latency when it comes to the C2D
