Default 4gb only shows 2gb

I'm sure this has been asked but here it goes. When I boot into the Bios I see 4gb, but when I get to Windows I only see 2gb. I know Windows 32 bit can only see a little over 3gb at most, but shouldn't it show up more than 2gb or is there a setting I need to change? I'm running Windows XP Pro.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
MSI K9N SLI-F V.2
2 GB DDR2 G.SKILL
2 eVGA GeForce 7800 GT 256 MB
1 Western Digital 7200 500 GB
2 Seagate Barracuda 7200 (200GB each)
Thermaltake Tsunami
Windows XP SP3

It depends what you have installed, 32bit OSes can only handle 4GB of memory total....that includes virtual addresses for anything you have installed....video cards, USB drives, etc.

Ok, this is what i did. I found something on the microsoft website that said to add /3GB to the boot.ini file. Now my computer boots but my monitor will not come on. I'm arms in the air on this one.

For some strange reason it fixed itself. I removed the /3gb switch and reinstalled my video driver just in case something wasn't working correctly. Now things are fine, but I'm still not able to see more than 2gb in the system properties. I can see that 4gb in the virtual memory too.

you might try removing one stick at a time and testing them each using memtest

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Go into your BIOS and play with the memory remapping option (I have to do this on my Asus P5W DH Deluxe). Should be on the section as your memory timings.

All 4 sticks do work, I see 4gb in the bios, using cpuz, system information. The only place I dont' see more than 2gb is in the system properties.

You have two options: Disable or Enable
