Default 3 sticks of DDR 2100 256mb ram does not work?

i tried all the sticks, they work fine, but when i try to use all of them at once, it doesn't work. This is an old socket 478 mobo i believe. 1.8ghz willimette. The mobo is by MSI and only has 3 DDR slots. I'm trying to max out the ram, to a total of 768mb, but it will not boot windows.

E2140 @ 375 x 8 = 3.0ghz
2x1 ocz system 1337s pc2-6400 5-5-5-15 @ 450mhz
gigabyte P35 S3L
eVGA 7600GT Stock
120 gig seagate
ULTRA X-Finity 600w
Sonata 2 w/ top fan
G5 Lazer Mouse

of course not, they are not all of the same make!!! If you check out MSI's web site, look under the supported ram, and check out the max ram that it shows, it will most likely show you nothing near 768mb of ram let alone a bunch of different makes of ram!!

mixed ram usually doens't matter. Right now, it is booting with 2 sitcks of ram. Gets 512mb. If i remember correctly, most mobos of this time usually support up to 1gig.

Although, this is one of the crappier ones. I tried to put in a geforce 2MX400 but i think its 8x agp and the mobo only supports 4x. LOL

Can you get into the BIOS with all three sticks installed? It's possible that with all three kits installed, the default timings are too tight than what one of the sticks is capable of.

Williamette was S423. I do not think motherboards supported more than 1GB, but I'm quite unsure of even anything higher than 768MB. Did you try different arrangements (like slots).

- Core 2 Quad Q6600
- DFI Infinity 975X
- 4GB Corsair XMS2 w/ DHX DDR2-800
- 250GB Seagate 7200.10RPM + 160GB Hitachi 5400.4RPM
- ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB
- Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W
- Acer 19" P191W Monitor
- Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution
- Vista Ultimate x64

They had s478 versions as well, at higher clockspeeds.

Lol, I'm still stuck in my Dell days man... Dell never upgraded their mobos until a new system came out... well, barely upgraded. I didn't know they existed.

all slots work fine.

So i should try loosening the timings? i think the timings are all the same but i'm not sure about that. Two of the sticks doesn't say anything at all. Only this one crucial one says anything on it.
