Default Xeon CPU?

Ok so i found a LGA 775 Xeon processor WITH 4MB L2 cache, is there any difference between this and core 2 duo?
Xeon 3040
C2D e6400
Xeon 3060
C2D e6600
Cause if the 3040 is better than the e6400, im definitely not going with c2d

WOW! I have not seen these yet. Nice find!! With twice the L2 Cache, these could very well be the next s939 Opterons (as in they are overclocking beasts)!

The only thing I can think of that would hold you back would be BIOS support. Especially since these chips are quite new, there is a good chance they wouldn't be supported by BIOS's.

Shouldn't have any problem. At $20 more for twice the L2 cache, i'd get a 3040 over a e6300 anytime.

Edit: Ah, something told me newegg made an error so I checked intel, and they did make an error.

Xeon 3040 = 2MB L2.

Hmmmm, that's interesting, Intel's website also lists the 3040 as having a 4MB L2 cache.

i came across these yesturday when i was looking for a dual woodcrest build as just a normal desktop. I thought these things were an error and didn't really relate them to being sort of like a s939 opteron. However, if that is true, this is great news!

Yep, basically a "server grade"chip made for a desktop socket. Who's gonna take one for the team and snag one of these and let us know how it does? *cough*Ranger*cough
I would, but I don't have an Intel mobo.

If you check my link, the 3040 is 2MB but if you check Blake link, it's 4MB. I notified NewEgg about the error but seeing as there's discrepancy on Intel website... who knows? However, knowing how much cache costs for chipmakers I highly doubt you get an addiotional 2MB (Conroe instead of Allendale) for $20.00 US at "the end of the line".

NewEgg replied to me with the same link Blake posted. Intel is being notified, let's wait and see.
I'd like to see it's a 4MB L2 cache CPU, really.

well it is essentially a server cpu, so it should naturally have the extra 2MB cache

How can you make this conclusion? Check the Xeon 3050, says 2MB too. Makes sense, Allendale & Conroe. The 3040 must be 2MB and the 3060 4MB the way I see it.
I'll wait the answer from Intel, and then we will all see. :)
