Default x2 3800 overclock question

i have an x2 3800, A8R-MVP, Mushkin extreme PC4000 (though CPUZ says PC3200??)

i set the CPU feq to 280, multiplier to x9, HTT to 800mhz, ram to 200mhz

upon checking the results with CPUz :
core speed : 2519MHz
multiplier x9.0
bus speed: 279.9MHz
HT Link: 1119MHz
voltage 1.488v
-edit- the ram is running at 280MHz

i noticed the bus/ht is higher then i usually see in overclocking posts...is that bad? should i lower it? as of now with low load, the cpu is running at 33degrees (i have not done extensive testing yet)

thanks fellas,
charles

As long as you aren't melting your CPU then you're ok. And 33 degrees is a long way from that.

Lower your HT Link so that it is less than 1000.

Make sure you run stress tests to make sure it is stable. At the very least run an OCCT test.

Yes, as Tyreal mentioned, keep your HTT speed below 1000 MHz by lowering the LDT multiplier in the BIOS and that should help keep everything in spec and running stable. 3DMark, PCMark, Aquamark, SuperPI, and Prime95 (or StressPrime) are some of the more popular stress testing and benchmarking applications out there (and they are all free).

thanks for the advice fellas. how do i adjust the LDT multiplier though? for the HT link, my bios gives me the choice of 400, 600, 800, 1GHz. my only other variables are clock multiplier, cpu frequency, ram (120, 150, 183, 200 [something like that])

for the record now now my specs are:
core: 2499MHz
multiplier: x10.0
bus: 250MHz
HT Link: 999.9MHz
ram freq. 250MHz

how can i up my ram frequency to around 270, while keeping the HT at 1000Mhz?

there should be another multiplier-type option that multiplies your FSB to create the HT link. It's usually called LDT, Lightning Data Transport.

You'll want to keep your ram frequency at the same frequency as your processor. Of course this is not always possible so you might have to use a divider. For example, my fsb is currently at 300 but my ram is everything but performance so I'm running a divider to keep it at around 210 mhz.

I don't know how to put this, but, I'm kind of a big deal.

Your HT Multiplier options are as follows:

1GHz = x5
800MHz = x4
600MHz = x3
400MHz = x2
200MHz = x1

If it were me, I'd try running the 270MHz FSB with a x4 (800MHz) HT Multiplier, which would put it at 1080MHz (2160MHz). Most motherboards will top out around that area, and if it's stable, then you're golden. If not, then lower it to x3 (600MHz). Or if you plan to overclock even higher, I'd go ahead and just lower it to x3 right now.

So what are you numbers like now???
When you run everest whats your overclocking percentage?

If you ever want to lower your ram speed. You don't actually choose 200mhz. 200mhz is more like the divider. If you want to make the ram slower than the cpu, you need to put it at 166mhz. However, you're using pc 4000, so its ment to run at 250mhz and can prolly run up to 280-290mhz.
