Athlon X2 4400+ or Opteron 175. They're cheap and give you some head room to learn how to overclock.
I'm not really sure, but I remind reading somewhere/hearing that the Opteron 175 are not what they were back then, not the overclocking beasts they were.

None, I would get a Core 2 duo.

But if you already have the MoBo and your just looking for the proc I would probably go for the 4800 since you don't want to OC.

I have the 4400 and I have it clocked to 2.4ghz (4800 speeds) without breaking a sweat. It would probably clock higher but I don't feel like messing with it. That opty you could probably clock even higher then that 4800.

You can't really go wrong with any of them really.

Having just got a OPTY I'm suggesting it. My 1.8 is overclocked to 2.665 without any problem.

My AMD x2 4800 rig will hit 2.8Ghz and that's it. Nothing over that. So if you go for the 4800, realize there probably won't be much headroom left in it.

Normally I would say an Opteron, but I can't see spending the extra $38 over the identically spec'd 4400+ X2, even with it being an OEM. For $25, you could slap an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro on it and still be ahead of the game, with adequate cooling and ultra low noise operation. You should be able to squeeze out a least a minor OC from that 4400+ X2, though YMMV. I can get to around 2.4GHz on mine, with 2.6GHz requiring a voltage bump.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
I suggest the X2 4400 as well. Performance is great, has the same L2 cache, and the chance for just as much headroom as the other chips. The lower speed will give you a little more room to play with overclocking too, should you decide to go that route.

Cool, I already have the AC 64 pro, So I am ahead of the game there. So I am going to buy the 4400 today when I get home. I dont trust the firewall here at school to buy stuff online.

If price was a consideration, I would go with the 4400+. The 4800+ and the 4400+ are almost identical save for the fact that the 4800+ is running 200Mhz faster. The 4400+ is a sweet proc, can overclock really well, and easily match and beat the 4800+ spec's. However, With the 4800+, you will have a bit more headroom for overclocking over the 4400+, so that is always something to keep in mind. But if cost was not a factor, then the 4800+ all the way. Great proc, the price is right, and it has excellent overclocking potential, even if you are only initially considering air cooling. =)

Good luck!

I agree, the 4400 is a fine choice. I have the AC 64 Freezer on mine, and it never gets over 40c OCed to 2.4. Even in the middle of summer.
