Default What I think killed my Athlon 64

I am beginning to think that it was my Power Supply that took out my Athlon 64's mobo, I opened the PSU i used in it yesterday, 2 things I noticed, 1. Extremely small heatsinks,2. the PCB in the PSU was charred abit around a diode and some resistors were kind of flaking

I think Antec makes some of the best PSUs on the market, the only drawback that I see is the wiring done on them is less than stellar.
Antec, Fortron, Thermaltake, and Seasonic all are very nice PSUs

Only thing bad about Antec I can say is that their customer service is crap. You'll need to literally beg for a RMA number.

A bit of background, I'm a computer technician. I'm not the best one, as there is always someone better than you but I know my things.
I had a really bad experience returning a 350W SmartPower 2.0 to them, something that should have been almost automatic since I clearly told them the problem, how I troubleshooted the whole thing and arrived to the conclusion it was the power supply. I took around 4 days discussing with a tech to get a number, and this tech was less than techy in my opinion, declaring that the power supply was too advanced for the motherboard I was using, motherboard being the same as in my signature.
Anyway, except for that bad experience with them, I'm pretty happy with their products. They're reliable, and while some users found voltages to be fluctuating on some power supplies I had none of this myself.

Thermaltake on the other hand... From my experience with their power supply, they tend to make alot of noise. And i'm not talking about fan noise, i'm talking about electrical noise you can hear... None has failed yet, and no RMA experience with them either so can't really say i'm disapointed.

And lol Lead Head, thats what you get from running Rosetta 24/24 on a cheap PSU. ;D

That would be 24/7 polobunny. :D

I would go for an Antec too. Cheap, reliable, powerful. Enermax and Fortron throw PSUs in the same price area too.

Oh yeah that's what I meant. Go away now. shoo. :P
I cannot get access easily to Fortron and not long ago my best provider of Enermax PSU stopped carrying them. Too sad because Enermax RMA was really easy. In fact I could do it "on the spot" at my provider because they could always get an exchange no matter what. With Antec they don't even want to take the risk of staying with a broken PSU. =/

Here's one. 535W, dual 12V rails, 18 amps on each rail. $89.99. It's also SLI certified for you, so you can use your dandy CrossFire feature... 2 years from now. :D

If you don't want that, there's a 420W... also with dual 12V rails and 18 amps on each. $69.99
