Default Want Quad Core? Get the G0 X3210

The G0 X3210 is the LGA775 Xeon CPU. It is server 'grade', so it is better. Remember the good old opterons of the skt 939 days?

This is the EXACT same idea.

The G0 X3210 has many advantages and one disadvantage.

X3210 has a HIGHER thermal specification at 85C. This is 10 C higher than regular Q6600.

X3210 uses LESS voltage and have been seen to be overclocking higher. 3.6ghz+ on air.

X3210 are binned cpus. (they are hand picked.)

The only real disadvantage is the 8x multi. However, with a 450fsb capable mobo, that is already 3.6ghz!

Enjoy.

Be a bit careful with this option. The chips are supposed to be fully 775 compatable but there are a few boards with BIOS issues and not running these chips.

They definitely do. But if the BIOS supports it, it's the best option.

Then again, any G0 stepping may not be supported by a bios. There have cases where if the bios didn't support the G0 revision, the pc wouldn't even post. I'm guessing it isn't the fact that it is a xeon, but the fact that those mobos did not support G0.

Xeon has a lot to do with it. Certain "server" motherboards are produced specifically for them. They are technically a LGA775 chip, but a lot of the boarfd have some issues accepting Xeons regardless of their stepping. Most of the newer BIOSs, however, should have no problems.

Think I could save $60 and have it work in a Asus P5K-VM motherboard? Under the cpu specs it says:

LGA775 socket for Intel® Core™2 Quad / Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo / Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 Processors
Compatible with Intel® 05B/05A/06 processors
Support Intel® next generation 45nm Multi-Core CPU

(Old current system)
Dual Althlon XP 1.6 ghz's
Tyan Tiger MP
1 gig ram
Ultra scsi 9 gig cheatah drives x2
20 Gig IDE drive
Ati AGP x1600pro 512 mb of ram

Well, aside from some BIOS issues, I think that this is probably the next "golden" chip as far as OC capabilities. I don't see many regular people grabbing these up for their desktop, though (I don't know why, just seems that way to me.)

I definitely agree. It's that perfect card. The Q6600 is such an amazing deal especially for how good it is. This XEON is the exact same CPU, but more stable (cuz it's server) and a much better clocker because a) the general results show it anyway, b) it's a G0 stepping compared to most Q6600s not being so right now, & c) it has an 8x multi vs a 7x multi. It IS golden!

It's G0 stepping, same as the Q6600, so I would think any board that supports the G0 Q6600 will support the G0 X3210...
