Those superpi numbers weren't terribly impressive. Actually, none of the benchmarks were terribly impressive. They i7 was significantly faster in the RAR unzip bench, but other than that it doesn't seem to be much faster than the QX9770 they tested it against.

Guys, lets just wait and see.....I cant believe people are putting much faith in results right now....when they are still working on reference boards with tweaked BIOS.

Remember, at this point before its release, a couple of big sites were referring to the Phenom as the "Conroe Killer"......so things are going to change, up to the last minute.

Considering x58/i7 is the future testing it with older apps is not what it's designed for. At least it's competitive with current tech if not slightly better. Look where it excels in Vantage, a full 50% bump, obviously future apps/games that take advantage of SMT will be where it shines. Of course all of this is only as good as the OS that supports it, so it's the same old story where we'll have to wait to see the full advantages of the new tech. Sadly we're still waiting to take full advantage of Quad Core and x64. There really is and has been a divide between Software and hardware compatibility that screws us end users. Most of us DIYers want the very best tech has to offer and as per usual it comes at a cost, no comfort here when the industry does'nt catch up.
In the end selecting both (hard/software) boils down to what your going to use it for and cost to achieve the desired results.

1.72v to get to 4.2? That's impressively lame. Like they said, we'll see once it's actually released, but so far the leaked info has been pretty underwhelming.

I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that the billion dollar industry has top people on it that have ingenuity beyond us here ... and that they have improved their product significantly beyond current market measure to induce buyer interest and support.

Hence as tweaked boards, bios and platforms congeal performance will be far superior.

Ummm ... don't bring up Vista ... we are talking Chips here.

Well A lot of people has this perception of AMD as a real competitor.......they were never close to the same league as INTEL when it came to resources. They caught lightening in a bottle with their socket 940/939 while INTEL completely crapped the bed with their Prescott processors........all of which caused AMD to really overextend themselves expanding their operations and buying ATI (Which ironically has basically saved the comapny).
