NCIX still has s939 Opteron chips, the Opteron 185-2.6Ghz looks like a very nice cpu, it's also the max CPU my Mobo will support.

And it's a few hundred dollars cheaper then the similar FX series.

I figured it was going to be gone soon. AMD, IMHO, has screwed some of us that were loyal to them with the change from socket 939 to AM2 and now, a new socket coming out soon. Forget what they call it, but AMD fan's have gotten a real good taste of what the Intel Fan's have been going through.

Glad I got that 4800+ for my s939 board when I did. For some reason, I just never saw them getting too much lower than the $300 I paid for mine.

all the remaining, clearance and sale prices of these procs over the next year should drop significantly then start its climb back up... nowadays it is hard to find a new SocketA Barton for a decent price.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

your better off with an opteron 165 or 170. theyre cheaper and overclock to roughly the same speeds. but thats off topic.

yeah i hate to see the 939 socket die and i agree that its still a heckuva platform but its an unfortunate necessity for amd considering that conroe is tearing it up right now and with the dell deal sucking up a good amount of chips. it just isnt feasible considering amd's not king of the hill at this time.

Boo...when I bought my 939 just this summer I figured even though it wouldn't be AM2 or Conroe, it would have an upgrade path. Apparently not.
