Default s939 FX-62 Anyone?

I was very surprised by the result. I can't understand why anyone would plop down their hard-earned cash for a $1000 S939 processor. If they have that kind of money, why not upgrade to AM2?

I have an FX-60....and recommend against anyone buying the high end processors....for 1/3 to 1/2 the price you can get the same performance from the midrange processors with a little tweaking

INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU

That's exactly why I don't understand why someone would buy an FX-62 for 939. 939 is basically for budget buyers now, so why would someone with enough money for a high-end CPU buy a top-of-the-line 939 CPU now?

Even AM2 is for budget buyers. :P
If you compare each CPU in it's s939 and sAM2 format, you'll see they're side by side price-wise.

If you're judging by the prices of the motherboard and CPU, then yes, you're right. But upgrading from 939 to AM2 requires new RAM and a new motherboard. If someone already has the RAM and/or motherboard for 939, then it'd be much cheaper to just upgrade the CPU.

Of course, you're absolutely right. But if someone's building a new system with the high-end CPU, then why the heck would they also settle for slow RAM?

But what really baffles me is that judging by the result of that poll, there must be something I've overlooked. What could that reason be?

Most cool people already have s939 mobo+ram and don't think sAM2 is worth it yet?
*shrugs*

exactly, why splurge and upgrade from a s939 to an AM2? There is no reason whatso ever to buy an AM2 if you are running a dual core s939.
Same with buying an X6800, why? Again, it makes much more sense to buy a X6600 or a 5000+ and tweak it...put the extra money into a good memory kit, or better yet a high end video card

I suppose that does make sense. I'm still a bit surprised at the large percentage though.
