| I just installed one for my wife's computer (P4 630 3.0ghz), and she wants a computer that will be effective for video editing at some point. Now, I just put this LGA775 platform together so her computer would work again, but I would like anyone with this platform to tell me if it would be good for video editing, or if I'll need to go with an Intel 'E' series cpu or C2D or something like that. If it would be good, then maybe I wouldn't have to build another complete system for that task, and then simply add some hardware and good editing software to her existing system. Also, were you as surprised as I was that the chip didn't have any actual pins on it, and had the little gold dots instead? That blew me away! I have gotten so used to the s478 and s939 cpus I've dealt with that had pins. If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! |

| I'm Diggin it! | That will be dependent on what motherboard you're using. By far, for multimedia chores of any flavor, a C2D rig cannot be beat right now. I would take an E6600 overclocked on the stock Intel cooler to 3.0Ghz over a P4EE @ 3.2Ghz any day of the week. The new C2D architecture simply outperforms the P4EE's. Just because a mobo is LGA775 socketed doesn't mean it will support the C2D CPU's. I wasn't really surprised with the LGA775's as I had read up on them when they first came out. But first seeing one, and the interface in the actual mobo socket (wavy, spring loaded pins), was pretty cool. | I'm Evil | Yeah, one of the big selling points of the dual core processors is the video editing aspect. Post the type of motherboard, you might be able to just plug in an E4300 or E6300 without to many issues. Not real sure if that board will support the C2D or not. | |

| Well stinger, you beat me to it. Yes, that is the board I used. However, what I meant in the first post was that if the LGA775 platform would not be good for editing, then I would probably get all new hardware and just build another computer, with some other cpu and a compatible mobo, etc. That senario would be down the road a bit, and for the time being I'm just curious if this cpu (and the board it sits on) can handle such a task. If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! |

| I'm Diggin it! | You won't have any problems with video editing with what you have. It won't be the fastest in the world, still quick enough though, but you will be able to do it without issues I would think. I had a Turtle Beach editing kit in mind (that comes with a panel mounted A/V port and a capture card), but someone had told me there were a lot of issues with it. So other than the need for the capture card itself, I'm not sure what sort of kit would work well. If it's not fixed, then don't broke it! | |
