Quite normal though for a high end dual CPU server board.

Yeah, key word there is server. If kept in the scope of desktop hardware, the performance Quad FX yields for the price makes is prettymuch a ridiculous waste of money.

Even then, don't you think Quad FX is a ridiculous waste of money no matter the use? =P
Really, 4x4 = flop. That's sad, but true. Too much specialized hardware needed, not enough third party support @ launch.
I wouldn't put something like that in a server, it's too much of a hassle, too much heat, too much power needed and not enough support.
I wouldn't put this in a desktop for now (perf. issues) and anyway the cost is simply too high.
Though kudos on trying to push the FX series down our throat at a minimal cost, nice marketing move that was made to stop people from buying C2Ds, sad that the product doesn't deliver as much as expected.

Well, it seems to be known that a dual CPU setup can improve performance in a multi-user server environment, but on the desktop, there is just no need. Kindof like having RAID I guess.

Wouldn't it be much cheaper to pick this board up and buy 2 Opteron's.

That Asus mobo is over priced, and also only has 1 PCI slot!

But it's not 4x4. No where near 3ghz dual core and 2 chipsets either. No more than 2 PCI-e.
