| The Final Word
| Personally, I'd recommend the E8400, its a bit cheaper and OCs about the same. I'm currently using mine for benchmarking X48 motherboards, and its 100% stable at 4.27GHz with 1.375V INTEL QX9650 ASUS Maximus Extreme 4GB DDR3-1600 Sapphire HD 3870X2 Danger Den Torture Rack (Custom W/C) Seagate 750GB HDD BFG ES 800W PSU | ||||||||||||||

| I just upgraded from an E2140 to an E8400 and it is running very cool and quick. Unless you use a lot of multithreaded applications like 3D rendering or audio/video encoding/decoding, then the E8400 or E8500 is going to be a better buy. For the most part, faster clock speeds will perform better for the average user than more processing cores. | ||||||||||||||

| Well then if the E8500 is cheaper than I'd recommend getting it. It'll overclock a little more or the same as the E8400. ![]() | ||||||||||||||

| Q6600. Sure you can overclock an E8500, but you can't add 2 more cores to it. As time goes on more software is going to be written to take advantage of the additional cores as well. But honestly if you can wait a few weeks, I'd go for a Q9450 over both of them. | By the time enough software is quad core optimized to make your purchase worth it, chances are both the Q6600 and E8500 are going to be outdated. ![]() If there is a final hour, let's hope for a higher power. One by one, and two by two, I have ammo, what about you? | ||||||||||||||

| True - a dualie is often quite enough. But because of those extra cores you CAN use the quad longer. Most folks don't upgrade quite as often as we do!
