| Modder-ator | Poor AMD, they just can't catch a break lately. I get the feeling this is the whole reason why Phenom was late to the market and only features slower parts. I think this current generation of processors from AMD is going to be the shortest lived in history. They need to move on to a smaller process and/or new stepping VERY soon or else this wound is just going to fester. |

| the thing I love are the sites that are only pointing at FPU and memory performance and calling AMDs Procs comparable to Intel... "For the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead..." | Colonel Calamity | in all reality they are comparable, just not on the high end. These new Phenoms are pretty much on par with the E6600 and below, it is just the higher end dual and quad cores that AMD is not keeping up with. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Modder-ator | True, but the problem is price. The quad core Phenoms demand a higher price (obviously just because they are quad core) compared to the dual core offerings like the E6600. They may perform equally, but the E6600 can be had for so much less it's not even a contest. |

Penryn is going to whoop it up and down the street. That's bad for the Green Machine. I hope they get it together fast. Believe it or not, I want them to be competitive - the specter of the X2's ownage of the PD is only going to keep Intel "tick-tocking" for so long. The high end enthusiast segment is where the rep is made - unless the price/performance is awesome. And thus far with Phenom, it is not. | I think AMD is going to need a big shovel to dig themselves out of this one, I hope they do though. Healthy competition is always good for the consumer.... Let's face it they've been screwing up ever since they got ahold of ATI ![]() X6800 @ 3.6Ghz Asus P5K Premium Leadtek 8800GTX @ 659/960 2gb OCZ Spec Ops @1066 5/5/5/15 |

| Also they are comparable in synthetic testing. In real world render tests Intel walks away from the same clocked AMD. Gaming is almost a moot point now since most games still struggle with Multi threading of the core CPU intensive APIs. On the other side in Office testing and other known SMP/SMT aware Apps the Intel CPUs win out unless the app is heavily memory dependant and has blocks bigger than can be stored in Cache. | Colonel Calamity | The thing is that AMD is not even claiming for it to be comparable to the high end Intel offerings so why try to claim it? Thats like putting the 2900XT up against a 8800GTS. Relating to games, AMD is able to keep up with Intel on similarly clocked processors since it is speed bound and not all are able to take advantage of multicore processors yet (but many are jumping on with the newer games). It all depends on what you are looking for and prefer. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |
