That system is pretty much at the end of its life cycle. You might want to think about building a new system, maybe keep that one for a file server, or using it for folding@home. If it is a socket 370, you might be able to pick up a faster cpu, maybe a 1gig, at a site like Ebay, or some of the other auction sites on the net. | |||||||||||||||

| Welcome to HardwareLogic! ![]() I moved your thread from the introduction forum and changed the title to something more informative to encourage more replies. ![]() Is it a laptop that looks similar to this? ![]() If so, it looks like you are going to be limited to Intel Pentium III processors. These are very old products and I'm pretty sure they are discontinued by Intel so it will be interesting finding one; ebay is probably your best bet. However, if you really need a computer upgrade that bad, I would suggest saving some more money and just replacing the whole machine with something more up-to-date. Otherwise, don't bother upgrading an PIII processor, it's probably not worth the hassle. If you can't afford a whole new computer, then save your money and just use the Compaq until it finallykicks the bucket (just don't forget to backup your important data). | ||||||||||||||

| Welcome to HL!!!!! Others have said that you are limited to PIII CPU's; I'm guessing that you will have a very hard time finding a working one of those. I would say save your money and get a new computer. Now a days, you can get a very capable machine for $400-$600.
