It depends on the chipset the motherboard is built with. In your case, it looks like the T3516 eMachines computer you have uses the ATI Radeon XPress 200 chipset. According to this page for the Intel Desktop Board D102GGC2, it will only support Celeron D, Pentium 4, and Pentium D processors. Here is another board based on the XPress 200 chipset with DDR memory and it is the same situation. Sorry, no Core 2 Duo support for you!

from a celeron a nice, warm pentium D would be an upgrade. Am i right in thinking it will support it?

Yeah, a 65nm Pentium D would be your best option. You may also be able to flash the BIOS using WinFlash if it is an Award BIOS.

tried to flash the bios with WinFlash and it wouldn't work the updated BIOS is an Award BIOS but the current is not so looks like a floppy is the only way to go

Not sure where you are located, but Wally-World usually has some dirt cheap floppies in their electronic department (sic).

Ordering a floppy on line (unless you are buying it with other parts too) you'll pay more for shipping than the thing is actually worth.

ya, for the more mundane stuff, wally world tends to be a good start, especially if you don't feel like being reamed with S&H charges.......got reamed once because I couldn't wait a couple more days for my 1 gig flash drive to get to my house, ended up paying almost exactly the same amount for S&H as I did for the drive......ahh the follies of youth, roflmao
