| Back in February, my wife and I talked about getting me a new laptop for DJ'ing, and refitting my current laptop (Acer 5601 C2D 2050) for her use, to retire her current (and my former) Sony Vaio FXA36. Of course, all of the dual-cores were either AMD Turion64X2's (Mostly TL-series), or Core2Duo (Txx00's - I was looking T7200). Needless to say, we held off because the finances weren't there. Late next month, they will be, so I started looking at Dell and HP. HP still hasn't changed much, with the Turion TL-60 as the top AMD, and the C2D T7200 still atop the Intel line on the DV6000-series. Dell's AMD offerings are the same, with the TL-56 as their AMD flagship. But the Intel offerings changed... First, on the Inspiron E1505, they dropped the 4Mb Cache T7200. In place, they've now added "Pentium Dual-Core T2080." When I worked for CompUSA, I did all of Intel's Retail Edge training to keep up. Now, of course, I don't. Edit: this isn't a debate over who makes the better laptop. I'm confuzzled over the new processors... Anyone got a clue as to the difference between the "new" Pentium DC and the C2D on the laptop platform? Thanky! | As far as I can tell, the T2080 only has 1 MB L2 cache and clocked at 1.73 GHz. That tiny cache would kill most normal apps imo (or significantly cripple the performance). And it is running off a 533 FSB. Looks like the 'new' celeron to me. A new low-end CPU for the masses when price is a factor in choosing. The T7200 is at 2.0 GHz with 4 MB L2 cache and a 667 FSB. | Never heard of a Pentium-Dual core but I see it a lot in OEM computer ads. Could it be a dual-core pentium M? Dread might be right about the "new" cleleron thing. |

| I was thinking possibly that Intel was "killing" off the Celeron name, so to try to squeeze more out of the older Pentium M line... The investigation continues... | Modder-ator | I believe they are actually Conroe (Core 2 Duo) decendants just with the "Pentium" name. Check out this news article for more info... |

| We take both criticism and positive comments very positively | I'm looking for a lappy right now, and honestly think the INTEL desktop lineup is a mess. I'd strongly recommend checking out the deals over at CyberPower, I've priced a very nice ASUS 15.4" with T7200 and 2GB of DDR2 memory for $1246.
