| Hey guys! I had a recent posting regarding motherboard choices, and I decided to go for Gigabyte's P31 flavor - the Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3R. It was a great choice! This chipset is very easy to work with and extremely stable. I have the STOCK Intel cooler on there, and every single setting DEFAULT/Normal - 300x9 booted up instantly - 2700MHz. I haven't raised any voltages, nothing. The thing is that the Intel stock coolers suck - it's running the CPU (average of 4 cores) at about 45*C - I'm expecting mid-30s. But in any case, it will never go above 63-64 ish at full load - I'm fine for now. BTW, this Q6600 is most definitely a G0 stepping - so let's see how far I can push it when I get my new cooler (either CM GeminII, TT V1, or ZALMAN CNPS9500). | ||||||||||||||

| I'm curious to see your results when you start overclocking. I've had a GO stepping Q6600 for about a month now. I'm deciding on a motherboard and waiting for my Antec twelve hundred to come out first. Good luck. | a G0 Q6600 with a good cooler should do 3.4~3.6ghz. Make sure you use dual orthos to check stability of the cpu. To know if it is a G0 or not, simply open up CPU-Z. | I just looked at the CPU itself (before I had a motherboard) - if you have SLACR on it, then it's 100% G0. BUT, CPU-Z is the easy way - this is what you'd see if you have a G0 stepping: ![]() In terms of the cooler, I was thinking about the ThermalTake V1 - no motherboard removal for installation, and one of the best! | Awesome results man! Those are actually very good temps for an overclocked quad core on the stock cooler. My E2140 was hitting in the 60ºC range at like 2500MHz (but that was summer and it was like 80ºF in my room). A Tt V1 should take care of things for sure, but for the price, you might want to look into a Thermalright Ultra 120 ![]() | ||||||||||||||
