Default Introducing the VIA Nano Processor

Quote:
"VIA made quite a splash early this year when they announced the Isaiah CPU architecture, which was developed at their Centaur design center. At the time of the announcement, we spoke with VIA's Centaur design center president, Glenn Henry, to get a deeper insight into what VIA had in store with Isaiah, but we weren't given many hard details regarding final clock speeds and specifications, performance, branding, or availability.

Today though, VIA is ready to disclose a few more details regarding the Isaiah CPU architecture. And we've got them available right here..."
Introducing the VIA Nano Processor - HotHardware

interesting... maybe a new competitor in the Intel vs. AMD game?
Though these will probably be geared more toward laptops...

I'm just getting into the via stuff, with a mini itx box I got in the mail yesterday. Little 800mhz cpu with 256mb of ram, in a case the size of a toaster, lol.

Hopefully isaiah can really compete with intel and amd in more than just the really low power segment/embedded market.

I doubt this processor will ever see the light of day outside of the ITX form factor, but that's really where it was designed to be anyway. nVidia is supposed to be joining up with VIA to make a chipset for this new processor. If nVidia can pair a powerful IGP capable of decoding 1080P HD video with the Nano processor without killing the power envelope, it will make for one killer small form factor machine! I hope they actually make it happen, it be a good combination.

VIA doesn't target mainstream systems anymore. They are nitch.

In fact, I don't recall them ever clocking over 1.8ghz.

So, I wouldn't hold your breath.

There procs are for high efficiency systems. Laptops and smart terminals.

basically looking at a competitor to intels Atom for the next gen Epc. i do like the thought of an itx based system with the abilities of an HTPC. hopefully via and nvidia can pull it off. wouldnt mind seeing an amd based chipset for this, but the likely hood of that ever happening is slim to none.

I like the tiny bundles that VIA makes. They are great for mobile applications such as car-puters. I don't think that they will make a big splash with it but it has it's uses.
