| The time has come for Revenge of the Nerds!
| ![]() After months of hype and anticipation, INTEL and AMD have unleashed their next generation processors on the market. While AMD's Phenom line has received luke warm reviews to this point, INTEL's Penryn line has been the toast of the town. Why? Today, HardwareLogic breaks down the quad core QX9650. While a casual glance might leave the impression there's little difference between the QX9650 and its predecessors (the QX6800 and QX6850), looks can be, and in this case, are deceiving. There's much more here than meets the eye... Rich Caporali INTEL QX9650 Core 2 Extreme Processor Review DIGG IT | ||||||||||||||

| The Final Word
| It was an ES chip that INTEL sent me. The bad news, its an ES chip, and they tend to OC better than retail processors.....The good news, its an early model, and I've been told that the later processors didn't have the temperature issue between cores. | Intel has done it again from the looks of it. Very impressive product and a great review. It will be very interesting to see if the other processors in this product line can go over 465FSB. | The Final Word
| Flagship processors typically aren't the best overclockers, and most might allow you to bump the multi x1 with 100% stability. The QX9650 was 100% stable at x11, and ran pretty well at x12.....with better cooling, and some tinkering, I think x12 with 100% stability is possible. Looking around the web to link articles, I saw no one really addressed the FSB issue, and tom me it is an issue, especially for people that want to balance their OC. I even went as low as x7, and it wouldn't budge past 465FSB. I switched out the QX6850, and it scaled all the way to 510 without much effort. I have seen some mention in forums about the temp issue, but again, didn't see it addressed in any reviews. At this point its almost baffling to me. Upon initial inspection, you'd think it was the IHS not making good contact, but that 18C difference at idle almost completely disappeared under load (2C-4C).....so I'm guessing its either a sensor issue, or a core issue. I try to make our reviews a little different.....Instead of rehashing the same stuff everyone else did, I tried to cover overclocking, and performance across a wide variety of applications.
