Default INTEL E6850 Dual Core Processor Review

A couple weeks back, I went on a bit of a rant regarding my experience with Intel's E6850 processor. While most reviews and several forum posts showed incredible overclocking results, my processor was one of several, as it turns out, which had problems with a low FSB wall when dropping the CPU's multiplier.

Nice review! So it would seem that it was just a single CPU issue (not being about to OC it) and this one was fine, correct?

hey great review, and at least you dont have to rant yourself to death again if it didnt work out like the last time

taking into consideration the prize right now and the near future, hey lets say now there is not much utilize the quads but in the near future there will be, and the E6850 est @ $289.99 vs. Q6600 $279.99 which in most cases can reach the speed of E6850, dont you think its alot better to chose the Q6600 specially on buying / building new rig?

ps. Prize mentioned is at Newegg...

Well, thats a debatable point. After my little hissy fit a few weeks back, I got more than a few emails pointing out similar issues not just with the E6850, but also Intel's Xeon line of processors. I can't really make an educated assessment on the small sample size, and as Intel says, they don't support overclocking, and overclocking is luck of the draw.

As to the review, remember, these are a work in progress. We're trying to cut fluff, but still provide the information people need to make an educated buying decision, as always, if you have ideas, comments, or criticism, please post it in the HL suggestion box.

Good review Rich. I like the shorter reviews much better, we still get the heart of the review and hitman won't get lost in a daydream reading it.

you know that makes me wonder about intel, they are against OCing but they pull people to buy their stuff over the idea of great chance of OCing...

oh well, marketing is always fishy no matter what being sold...

well rich,

you got a bad luck mixed with a jinx, that very moment. coz i havn't encountered that intel rep. as far as i dealt with them they havent gave my a bad deal...

probably you got an uneducated jerk on the end on Intel support... well, i feel you pain with bad reps, happend to me too many times with Verizon DSL...

joker nice, that will be great in a tshirt
ps.rich i pm you something...

I think if you look close enough you'll find hypocrisy in most businesses. Intel overclocking a display system then refusing to even talk to you about it doesn't really surprise me.

As a reviewer though, you review what you've got. If the sample they gave you won't overclock you're well within your right to say,

"Well, you can see a lot of other sites have great overclocks but we had no such luck. We feel this is due to a bug or some issue not related to the quality of the processor, but we were unable to get any kind of support from Intel on the matter. You can come up with your own theory as to whether this can be attributed to lack of quality of their processor or their customer support."

If they give you the big "F*** you"...give it right back to them.

So it looks like Intel is promoting OCing, but it's not covered under warranty... I can see how this can be confusing to some people.
