Default Intel Being Sued

Apparently the core 2 duo isn't completely Intel's invention and the university of Wisconsin wants their fair share.

can one school take on the behemoth known as Intel? chances are slim. i predict they settle out of court for an undisclosed amount (which is what they are after anyways)

No.

I'm sure the school just wants a cut of the profits. Whatever it was that they used was invented quite a while back.

Although it's very possible for UW and Intel to have developed the same or very similar technology with no infringement on Intel's part, I doubt that is the case.

In today's business world, standard practice has become to "use" whatever technology you need, sell your product, make hundreds of millions of dollars, then pay a settlement of a few million dollars - all for an excellent profit. The fine or settlement is nothing more to them than part of the cost of doing business.

Ethics have been completely thrown out the window and I can't foresee any significant change until the courts stop imposing meaningless fines and start throwing CEOs in jail.

(Think of this past week's Merck fraud case. ABC News: Merck to Pay $670M to Settle Fraud Case Do you think that if you had defrauded the government out of hundreds of millions that your sorry butt wouldn't be in prison right now? )

Intel broke the patent law, no different than someone downloading music illegally and they should have to pay the price when they get caught.
