Default E4300 or E6320

I'm in a small debate with myself. I either want the E4300 or the E6320. I know the E6320 is significantly more expensive, but has a higher cache and FSB than the E4300. I want as cheap a price as possible (this is a graduation present from my parents) while still maintaining a solid computer. My question is how much of a performance difference am I going to notice with these CPU's? Is the extra cache, higher FSB, and higher clock really worth that much?

I plan on overclocking whatever CPU I get so clockspeed really isn't the issue. I just need to know some real facts based on how much the cache is really making a difference and whether the FSB is making any difference too.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.4GHz
Gigabyte P35-DS3R Revision 2.0
4GB DDR2 667 (Corsair XMS2 x2 and Edge Technologies x2, 4-4-4-12)
eVGA 8800GTX stock clocked
OCZ 700w GamerXstream power supply
Antec Three 300 case
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with SP1

Really, I don't believe you will see a big improvement in the FSB dept. if the memory is DDR2 800. The higher cache is good for gaming, but it alone doesn't really justify the price difference. In your case I'd go with the E4300, but if you can pony up (its really only what, $50 more?), then the 6320. Just my opinion on this.

Agreed. Especially if you O/C this thing. You'll have no problem. Spend the money elsewhere.

That extra L2 cache on the xx20 series (4MB cache that is) is making a huge difference in the F@H SMP client work units. As much as a 60% reduction in frame times.

You know I have seen places where people say the extra cache does not really and matter and other places where it is supposed to make a huge difference. I think you are always safe to get extra cache if you can, it should never hurt.

For only a $50 price difference I do not think there is really anything to think about, get the E6320. The price difference is way to small to make it a big deal and the chance for the boost is real.

If you are really trying scrap for cash to build this machine and don't plan on being a benchmark freak, then the E4300 or E4400 will do you fine. Especially if you plan on overclocking, the FSB dilemma goes right out the window. But if you have the money and are able to bump up to the E6320, it definately won't be WORSE than the E4300

Ed brings up a good point......I myself for the most point look at cache as a marketing gimmick.....in most applications it makes no difference at all, but in a few it does.

Based on that criteria, along with your decision to overclock, I would have no reservations in recommending the E4300. If you have the extra $50 to spend and won't be sacrificing another part of your PC, then it certainly wouldn't hurt to have the additional cache. If not, don't stress, as you'll be just fine without it.

It's also worth noting that the E4300 comes with a x9 multiplier, which can potentially make for an easier overclocking experience when compared to the x7 on the E6320. This could or could not be an issue, depending on how high you plan to OC, and if your complimentary components are up to the task and can handle a higher frontside bus setting.
