Default C2D Upgrade... need help.

As most of you know, I was out of the PC loop for a while and now I don't really know what's going on. I'm looking at upgrading in the near future and know that on July 22 there is suppose to be an Intel pricecut.

My budget is approximately 550 CAD, to replace the motherboard, CPU, and memory. After doing a bit of reading around the forums and some other PC sites I figured out a possible game plan.

In the next week or two, I will buy both the motherboard and memory. I've chosen the Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6, a motherboard that I have seen Capper and other enthusiasts recommend. The memory will be Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 2GB CL4-4-4-12 kit. I will sell my current mobo/cpu/memory combo to buy the processor. As much as a Q6600 appeals to me, the E6540/E6440 is much cheaper and will hold me off until Penryn. What I am not sure about is whether or not I will be able to use these new processors in the P35-DQ6. From some places I've read, it should be able to support Penryn.

The motherboard and memory will set me back 510 CAD. Once I sell my current setup, I should be able to buy the processor which should be around 160-180 CAD. All my old hardware will be kept. I still don't know if this NeoHe can handle this new hardware. I tested the rails yesterday from the ATX and everything was within specs except for the 12v which was dropping a little bit (~11.98).

Opinions and money saving options are welcome.

By the way... Does anyone here have any experience with Open box or refurbed components? I can get a sweet deal on some parts but they are refurbed.

Have a look at the E6600. Seems to fit your budget.
