I took the sink off a dead Athlon 1000 rig while it was running, really nasty burning smell after about 2 seconds then the ceramic package cracked and the molten die launched in the air and landed on my sweat shirt..melting a hole in it... I was actually able to keep a P3 based celeron running without the heatsink by slowly dripping water of of a little dropper onto the die, the water was boiling on the die, but the the thermal override didn't kick in Opteron 64 165--1.5GB DDR--ECS KA1 MVP(thanks HL!)--x1800GTO 256MB--Seagate 320GB SATA--Antec 550 Watt--Antec P180 | |
