| Thread moved, don't be afraid to PM a moderator if you have an issue ![]() As for your question, the next generation Intel processors are indeed codenamed "Penryn" and will be manufactured on a 45nm process. There is very little information about how well they will actually perform though, but it is pretty safe to assume they will not be any worse than current offerings. ![]() This is basically a die shrink with some optimizations, not necessarily anything earth shattering. There is usually no direct, noticeable performance improvement from shrinking the process, but from the extra tweaks and optimizations. | ||||||||||||||

| That may bring more overclockability, and definitely lower temps which will help that further. Other than that, I'm pretty sure stock performance won't be better - just most possibly higher clocks (at stock for the same prices), because of the lower temps. | ||||||||||||||

| Well, I guess that depends how you will be waiting! ![]() If you are ready to build a machine now and you really need it, then no, I wouldn't bother waiting. but if you are toying with the idea of an upgrade before the end of the year, then yeah, you might as well wait for them. | ||||||||||||||

| They don't really seem all that "groundbreaking" and I don't really think that it's worth waiting for if you were to buy a system today. (Like Blake said.) But the good thing is, is that once the 45nm CPU's come out the 65nm CPU is drop in price. ![]() Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 | DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL | 2GB G.Skill 800MHz | EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB | Silverstone Decathlon 650W | Western Digital 250GB SATA II | ||||||||||||||
