Half-Life Live Action Film?

Posted January 6th, 2008 at 20:51 by XoRn
A couple weeks ago I was pondering the possibility of a Half-Life live action film (based more on the second game then the first), hopefully one not so cataclysmic as Dooms (though in all fairness, my only main beef with Doom was the diversion from the games original plot). I, as fate would have it, was pondering this while walking though the aisles of our local video rental store when I came across this particular movie.

Now, I have to admit that I'm not a huge Johnny Depp fan. I enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean films and Secret Window but thats about it. He is however nearly a dead ringer to everyones favorite theoretical physicist/world saver. Of course their are several interesting characters Gordon meets along his journey so I began casting them as well.

For the roll of Eli Vance, theirs no doubt that Morgan Freeman is dead ringer, although he may not be to enthusiastic about having his leg chopped off.

For Isaac Kleiner I knew that who ever played him had to have some experience as a mad scientist. Who better then Christopher Loyd to have a headcrab cup to his head?

Wallace Breen is a cynical, yet brilliant man looking out for number one. Although his voice may not match, George Carlin is spewing cynicism up the wazoo.

For Judith Mossman I picked Julia Roberts to play the roll of the theoretical physicists Freeman beat out for back in the day (woo, lucky him).

Father Grigori may play a minor roll compared to the other characters on this list, but he's the only other human presence with you during Ravenholm. With out him the game may have been too scary at points. Who best to spend your stay with some creepy crawlies then someone who deals with them in just about every movie he's in. Ron Perlman (dear god he looks like he was beaten with an ugly stick as a child):

The final three cast members were the hardest to pick. First, Barny Calhoun needs to be played with someone with some comedic background and at the same time able to play a serious roll. For those who have only seen Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison Adam Sandler may seem a long stretch but movies like Reign Over Me and Spanglish show that he does in fact have a few acting bones in his body.

The second hardest role to cast was that of Alyx Vance. A strong female lead and a possible love interest for Gordon is no easy roll to fill. Rosario Dawson pulls both of these at once in Sin City.

Finally, and I know you've been waiting for it. G-Man. I considered 20 different people and in the end it came down to 2 men. I'll let you pick for yourself.

As this picture demonstraits, very few people can look alien while looking human. The shape of his face is almost perfect in a creepy kind of way to that of the G-Man except...

... when Christopher Wallken is introduced into the scene. And let's face it, Half-Life needs more cowbell.

Got your own cast for Half-Life, or any other game for that matter? Post it! Some games just never get turned into movies no matter how good they could potentially be so a castfiction or two is always fun to ponder on.
