That's dangerous and irresponsible. Driving like that will definitely kill a car inside of 10 months, if you don't total the car hitting a pole or shopping cart first. .

I figured I'd add mine...albeit a day late and a dollar short. 2006 Nissan Frontier SE Quad Cab 4.0 V6. I have no idea how I lived before I had 4 doors on my truck. This is the 4th Nissan I've owned, so you could say I'm a little brand-loyal. I've still managed to never own a car, and hopefully never will.

thank you cheif driving-jeep-off-cliffs

I have driven all sorts of vehicles and out of all the front wheel drives we did this with, not a single one died from this type of driving.. if you keep the RPMs around 2000RPM (gas about halfway down on most older and smaller 4 bangers) then it is harder on the engine to drive on the Interstate than to do the cookies in the snow...

Thanks HL and Corsair!

How did you know that my mom drives a Contour? Did I say that somewhere? If it's archived, you must have dug deep to find that...I don't even remember.

fill up the tank and check the mileage yourself to see how accurate that milometer is
My Mustang has a thing that shows all kinds of info, including "Average MPG", which I take to indicate real time actual fuel consumption. If the number is low, I must be using fuel faster, and less if the number gets higher. It has a 14.5-15 gallon tank, with about 400 miles to the tank if I watch how I drive. So that ends up being just about what they rate the car at, which is 25-26 MPG when all is said and done, even though it's not supposed to have more than a 300 mile range.

Here's a vid I made of the Stang:

Click the link above the vid if it won't play here. It wouldn't when I tried it.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

The problem with the Blizzaks and similar soft tread types is that they are so soft that they tend to be useless after 10-20K miles so you only get 2-3 winters out of them before they're torn up and useless. They do work great on snow and ice but as soon as you hit dry roads with normal driving, they wear down very quickly. The tire companies love them of course because they cost as much as a full set of tires but last 1/2 to 1/4 as long as the normal 40-50K mile sets.

You may wanna look at 195/65R14 as an alternate size for winter as your current size is really hard to find in a winter. a 195/65R14 will have roughly the same diameter so it wont throw your speedometer off, but it will be about 1cm narrower. Directional also seem to bite well into snow, which is always a plus. Bridgestone, Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Hankook & Kumho all make great winter tires that dont really break the bank. If you wanna go all out in terms of price, there's also Pirelli & Yokohama both of which probably make the best winter tires available

Bang for the buck right now, I'd say the Bridgestone Blizzak is a great choice

O K I worked for 6+ years at a major tire place ....first of all,you DO NOT lose studs...,I studded tires and know what it takes to put them in a tire.Spinning does NOT "throw" them.(if you lose studs, they were NOT done correctly)

Bang for the buck...Blizzak may come close(depending on the application). that particular brand can be beat. (/price/application etc.)...go to Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels or your local Jack Williams Tire and Auto Service Centers Bridgestone has ALWAYS been over priced,as well as Michelin group: Tires, car tire maker, guide michelin, michelin map and sustainable mobility (all tire makers have low end lines...we see this in pc parts as well)

Except that its widely known in the tire industry that michelin is one of the most over rated brands.

Kumho,Hankook,GT Radial are all companies that sell their tires cheaper and perform just as well. Which is odd since all of their stuff is shipped from overseas
