| I'm Diggin it! | I spent all day at the tornado house yesterday, going over things with the contractor. We are having the house repaired. The house is worth $180K on the market and the repairs will run about $130K, which is more than what we owe on it. Since there's a $50k difference in building a new one over repairing what's there, the repairing method will be used. Due to the nature of the repairs, the house will be stronger than it was before the tornado, plus it will have all new sheet rock, siding and roof. These next two weeks are going to be extremely busy ones, between work and the house, things are spooling up very fast. I hadn't expected to get anything money wise from the insurance company for another week, then suddenly, an overnight envelope arrived the other day and all kinds of stuff started rolling. I'll figure out over the next week or so what I'll be doing to the house. We know for sure we aren't putting the fireplace back in, instead we are diverting those funds to a built in shelving unit, French doors leading out back and a screened in back porch. If I do wired Ethernet, I'd have to do it myself since theres no funds for that. Will have to wait and see what the budget will allow for. I'm about to leave for the house again, so will check back tonight when I drag ass in the door. | Give me a rough estimate on how many feet you might need. I'll check my stash and see what I can spare. It's only CAT 5 ,but for free, who cares. Bailey. |

| I'm Diggin it! | Three days into it and these guys are moving impressively fast. ![]() The whole house is pretty much gutted. A couple of ceilings to come out yet, but there's a huge amount of progress. The roof trusses aren't in as bad a shape as we first feared. The piping to the water heater was sheared off in the wall behind it, so we are relocating it out to the garage. The wiring looks very good, something we had concerns over in the attic. The heating/cooling duct work is in very good shape, the fact it's rigid ducting instead of the flexible stuff they use today helped that matter. So far, the back wall of the house has five busted wall studs...and that's the worst part of the house. The kitchen breakfast area wall has moved on the foundation about 1/2" like I suspected, but can be repaired in place, not removed and rebuilt as we were afraid of. The garage sheet rock comes out today. This is where we are highly suspicious of wall movement. I'll be heading over there here shortly to see what's what.
