Hey, I'm running Ubuntu on this laptop I'm typing on right now... it's a pretty good OS. Great for web-surfing.

well Ubuntu is called N00buntu for a reason... it works well and easily installed with a wide range of hardware without all the extra tweaks needed... I have also had good luck with Fedora Core 8, even with my picky X1950GT video card

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I like distributive computing, but that's not a sales thing. Might show it in a light as being a hive in the place of business? Beowulf clusters reborn and their perks in today's business. Low power workstations all being shared to do community work vise several monsters. I'm thinking campus style businesses could reap it in the way google hardware sits in their secret backrooms helping searches and filing methods.

You're high, and hope that's not all you had to say to be persuasive to a class. Mac's basically have that basic *Nix Ubantu entry level stuff, and the only reason it can be good at anything. Compare the hardware. It's not a PC thing, as Mac's are PC's in all regards...on *nix.

If you HAVEN'T used linux on a PC, you then just sold them on cute white things at a mark up and were biased in your data. Did you tell them the upgrade path was throwing it away and buying an entirely new box as tech progresses? If it were laptops, that it's just slightly nice to have actual ports to use and just maybe a DVD drive? The crowd that received the data you gave...well...they only take what you give them, and you only gave them one side. Macs are white, and that's about it.

Funny how a simple thread on persuasive speech topics can turn into a Mac versus PC versus Linux debate

I think I'm going to do my speech on why people should move to Vista rather than stick to XP. Granted, the other topics were awesome, but I think some of the topics would go way over the heads of most of the people in the class (we had a speech on cows for example).

Thanks for all the suggestions.

That is what they tell us, yes .

They are for transfer credit, so really doesn't bother me.
