Better be careful. There are animal groups watching for people that use chains. There was a big story in PA recently. dogsdeservebetter.org

I understand where you're coming from. We had a shepherd a few years back, I was always buying new cables. She also didn't like the house; heck, I almost got bitten trying to get her to sleep in the garage on winter nights. As long as she had her dog house w/ tons of blankets on the bottom (I also put hey around it) she was fine.

To me, it sounds like you need to be realistic. Tell you're wife & kids to start saying goodbye. The cold weather is coming, I don't doubt she's like a human that will hurt more as the weather changes. On cold days I don't like to go out because once my back gets a chill, I'm done. From what you're describing, it doesn't sound like she has much longer, you would be doing the humane thing to put her down with dignity.

I've found that having a loved pet cremated does wonders for the healing process. I still have my "Daisy" our gas station dog that we put down 21 years ago last April. I have her in the original can they gave me with a picture taped to it. When looking for an urn for dad I came across some really nice ones that they will engrave the photo & any words on. Daisy was in the casket with dad; right along side of her master. When I go, she & dad will be in the casket with me. I'll tell you, I cried for 15 years whenever I thought of her; she was such a great dog & "friend" to me growing up.

My wifes Cat Malcolm, is in an Urn on our Entertainment Center. He has been there since before we got married. I never even met the Cat.

I have been following this thread for awhile, I have 2 boxer dogs and 1 is 10 and the other is 12. Keno the oldest is kinda in a similar situation. I would never think about getting rid of him unless it helps him. I love keno more than my wife because he came before the wife.
This is what I do, I keep Keno and Zu(the 10 yr old) in the kitchen while we are at work. I use baby gates to keep them in. They have a papasan cushion that they sleep on, their food and water is there. If Keno goes on the floor no big deal I scoop it and chunk it.
This is probably the hardest thing to see, your best freind going thru this situation. I dont envy your situation at all.
As for the person that said get rid of it, you obviously have never owned a pet of your own.

I would rather read a NewEgg review than a [H] review

Any update on Kimi? Did you try any of the suggestions?

I bought the de-wormer my Vet friend told me about and have started her on that. It takes care of a lot of intestinal parasite's, so we'll see what happens. Kimi took to the kennel bottom (no top on it) easily since I put her "bed" in there. She hasn't had the runs since starting her on the de-wormer, I think she's a bit constipated.

Yesterday was one of those days for her where she was so spirited and all, you just can't imagine putting her down. Right now, she's walking around the kitchen, sniffing at things. Perhaps Providence has decided she will hang out a while longer.

Glad to hear. Maybe the dewormer was what she needed. :)
