i have a friend whos from mexico and actually came here illegally when he was a small child. both him and his mother were sent back but this is just a little filler information. anyway he said that its very difficult to come over here legally. he said it takes years to go through the proper channels. ill have to ask him how much it costs to become a citizen. needless to say its more than most people in 3rd world countries can afford.

back to the original topic. that law should have never existed in the first place. if that were the case, those 3 people would still be alive today. however because of san fransisco's "forward thinking" we have 3 people dead and a family thats been crushed. i have no problems with someone immigrating here (legally) to work for a better life for their family, however scum like that guy need deported before an incident such as this occurs.

its a shame that it takes something like this to realize that man is not inherently good by nature.

citizenship fee: $595
electronic fingerprint fee: $80
lawyer fee (optional): $3000
travel costs
fees from the home country
embassy fees
filing fees

look at some of the comments below this story:
Worldandnation: Fees to become a U.S. citizen, resident, to increase sharply

this is typical of almost all stories about becoming a citizen.

Granted because of this issue there are other comments in there that are rude but that can be expected with this type of issue.

hey screwball, you want real life application? I was born in Taiwan accidentally as i was born early before my mom was able to come back to the USA. You want "unfair", I was denied a Green Card to come to the USA until I was 5 yrs old. Both my parents had Green Cards at the time, and yet the US Govt denied me access. Now how fair is that? Splitting a family up? Having a newborn split away from their parents. So i have no compassion for anyone who's coming here illegally, nor do I support any "amnesty" for illegals. Why the hell should someone who's breaking the law get a free pass? Also charges for legal, no shit its costly, and requirements are difficult, why should it be easy/cheap for everyone to come to the USA? You see any other country thats cheap and easy to get resident/citizenship?

First, we have sort of gotten off the original topic regarding the laws in San Francisco.

Next some of what I am reading is bullshit. A friend of mine has a son who is a fairly pathetic bastard. Using a chatroom (Love In The Phillipines) he found a girlfriend. She did pay her own way here on a "Tourist" visa. Within a month they were married and she was pregnant. The marriage was her ticket to remain in the US.

She did just recently after 5 years obtain her citizenship. No lawyers, no bullshit, and sure as hell none of these mega cost I see posted. She needed a sponsor, to pass the test and pay a few simple fees.

Looking at some of this:

Hey, if they don't like the rules I suggest they pack their shit and either go home or find another country. Considering what this place has to offer it seems a good deal. Christ, Mexico has worse and more strict immigration laws than we have here.

Back on topic, the bottom line is if it were not for San Francisco's whacked laws regarding illegal immigrants I can't help believe three US Nationals would still be alive today.

I just posted some info about the situation... I do not agree with free or amnesty based citizenship either. In your case, yes it was a screwed up situation that should allow for some sort of exception but a very limited and specific scenario exception. Personally I think any city, county or state with any type of "illegals sanctuary" type law or status should have all federal funding pulled until they completely get rid of those laws, and with no back pay while the funding is pulled.
The US is about working to make your place within society... too many natural born citizens do not do this so those that work their way through the system legally are better off overall than the natural born... I hear of situations all the time here in FL where the child or children are born in the US but they deport the mother, and in many cases send the kids back with her, or the kids stay with another illegal family member. If she was here illegally or breaks our laws then it is sad but the children suffer. In your case since they were legal, you should have automatically been allowed back in.
I think if anything we need more strict and more proactive illegal alien measures (against illegals, not against the legal ones as in your case)... build a 10 foot wide by 20 foot high stone, brick and cement wall along the southern border. Border patrol ios authorized to shoot to kill any caught crossing. Any illegal found stateside gets sent back to their home country... any illegal found more than once gets dropped off in some random African country or some middle-eastern country in the desert... somewhere that they can't just walk back across our border.
I know one place they could have made a major bust was last night after I finished my league bowling, there was literally at least 50 mexicans (half children) that came into the bowling alley... and not a one spoke english from the way they were trying to get shoes and some lanes...

We had a raid by the INS here a couple months ago at a meat packing house and they arrested many illegal immigrants but until they start leaving heavy fines on the companies hiring them then it won't stop.

Yeah, I have friends from the Phillipines and Asia, and none of them have ever dealt with that. Are you sure she wasn't a drug mule, or didn't have to buy her freedom from mean pimps or something?

Taiwan govt is very strict about that too, especially the males as its mandatory to serve in the military, they restrict out of country travel for many males past the age of 14 in fear they'll run off. You need special permission letter from the military dept to leave the country after age of 14 till you're 40. IF i wasn't a US Citizen, i wouldn't even be allowed to visit Taiwan anymore. Now my restriction is I can only be in taiwan maximum 6 months every 2 years. Or i get detained.
Sorry for going off on ya screwball, read it wrong, but yeah i have no respect for the SF city politicians, the city's great but their representatives blow like hell.

Been awhile but years ago I would get to Taipei quite a bit. Even years ago those guys would crawl all over your passport. Loved the place though!

I checked with my friend this evening. Her daughter in law was here 5 years from the Phillipines when she applied. Start to finish, sworn in, blah, blah, blah the cost was less than $1,000 US and it took a year.

I don't know what these other peoples problems are but someone is blowing smoke up someones ass.

Have a friend who was assigned to Mexico. Met and married a mexican girl in Mexico. She had been to the US before on a tourist visa and they wouldn't issue her another. Took Dennis about 8 to 12 months to get her here permanent (legal) from Mexico. Just countless frustrating arguments with the state department. Still less than a year.
