It's a difficult argument. We had a good friend almost get paralyzed when an elderly woman in a large Caddillac pulled up behind him and his motorcylcle at a stoplight, she never saw him and pulled up the light right on top of him. I agree that many elderly people become unfit to safely drive after their senses deteriorate. However, society must be willing to provide effective and convenient transportation to these folks if we're going to take away their ability to drive. Services like C.A.R.Ts are a good step, but taxpayers aren't willing to alot more money to these services.

Agree.
But not just old people, everyone should take a test. Just a routine checkup. I know the problem though, huge load on the system, but it would be a good thing in my opinion. There's so much bad drivers it's crazy. You might even be one and you don't know it! :P

Oh I think the required vision test, written test AND physical driving test should be mandatory every year once you hit 70. Also if there is a medical condition then possibly earlier.

My son's great grandmother drove until her 90's; when they (family) took her car away. Something needs to be done for sure.

Old people driving usually piss me off. There's a couple that I've seen that aren't a hazard, but those are few and far between. Hopefully, when I'm that age, I'll have the sense like both sets of my grandparents did. They chose to stop driving on their own and sold their cars.

I saw an episode on southpark on this subject, the aarp came in with guns, and the only way to beat them was to lock the restaurant they went to. But they still drove. Watabout meth? Now that's scary!

DISCLAIMER; I was probably drunk when I wrote this!
