I'll also say no, cause that price is plain ridiculous (although they are talking about $1.50/litre by summer *shudder*) and the gas companies are rolling in cash, laughing at the rest of us!

And yet there still is no plug-in hybrid. Quite possibly the most ingenious thing EVER.

Fuck you car/oil companies for killing the electric car.

If you guys haven't seen this movie, I'd suggest watching it. My friend has been raving about it for ever and now I'm finally watching it.

It is amazing to me how many people think that electric cars somehow get their juice magically, without any impact whatsoever on the environment. They never stop to think that all that electricity must be generated from somewhere. Burn the gas on the road, or burn the coal in the plant - the laws of physics just don't allow for the creation of energy with the wave of one's hand. ...

And another thing - no one I know wants to buy an outrageously priced, underpowered electric car for the good of the environment. CA - land of fruits and nuts (no offense, YellowHello) - tried to force car dealers to carry a certain percentage of electric cars, but the things just sat on the lot - they couldn't sell them.

As technology improves I think we'll start to see better batteries and power. Prices should start edging downward, and eventually the floodgates will open. I suspect 50 years from now the gasoline powered engine, at least in automobiles, might have gone the way of the horse and buggy.

I've seen that movie before... big oil hates when something gets too popular and would subtract from their profits....

The only thing that made me mad about that movie was the wastefulness of the car companies. How they just destroyed perfectly good cars, and didnt let the people who wanted to keep them just keep them. If one person cant have them then noone will. What a shame.

they added more to that movie from the last time I saw... like it had been updated... of course, big oil does not want a reminder for anyone out there that there is a zero emission vehicle out there that does not use gas, more people will want one and they lose more money from a lack of oil and parts. Rather than families having 2 oil based vehicles making the oil industry all sorts of money, people would have one long range gas car for road trips and the other for around town. This means 90-99% of their driving will be on battery and the big oil and auto manufacturers lose big money.. they can't have that... sad but true

I think I saw a book in the library about how to transform a car into an electric-powered one. They recommended trucks though, as the range to weight ratio was best for them. Cars was worse, and vans were better than cars, but worse than trucks.

I once planned on doing such a conversion, but gave up after realizing how poor a battery-powered car would work in Alberta's (and for that matter, Canada's) climate.
