I see you didn't list FOX . The media is a necessary evil. I don't agree with everything they say and do, but I also don't believe that America should be left in the dark. I do wish they would be less bias, and left wing. Even though I tend to agree more with FOX news side of things, they are just as guilty as the rest of the media for being biased.
Yeah, I do agree the media is a necessary evil. I am also very glad the media did not have the tools in Vietnam they have in Iraq. Abu Grahab is a good example of where I despised the media. They took what amounted to little more than hazing and portrayed our guys in a real bad light. We quickly forgot what our enemy is really like. These guys get off beheading people.

I guess what really trips my trigger is people who have never really experienced combat having so much to say about it. I will never forget the "Rules Of Engaugement" as were posted in our gunships. We often wondered who wrote that stuff.

My personal feeling with IRAQ was we never should have went in. If Sadam did in fact have these weapons and blah, blah, I figured we should have waited for him to use them and then kick some serious butt. Afghanistan was a handful and that I could understand.

The thing about waiting for some loon to use his toys is you wind up with a superbad mess such as WW2, wherein Adolf and crowd sure took a lot of killing before being out down.

Saddam convinced the world he not only had some toys to play with, but had also shown he was ready and willing to use them, on his own people even.

I think the US led coalition was justified in going in and doing what had to be done. Sadly, there is a whole lot more to do before the job is complete.

Hey, just had a real brainstorm! Lets take the cameras and mikes away from these idiots of the press, drag everybody out of the various boardrooms, out from the studios, slap a rifle in their hands, a helmet on their perfectly coiffed hair, and send them into some of these troublesome areas.

How long do you think before they become 'embedded' (in a stucco wall)?

This was never intended as a political thread, only as a explanation as to why the military doesn't leave anyone behind and a tribute to those men and women that server.

Unlike Hitler, Saddams Army, wasn't as powerful, or Loyal. Saddam was only a real threat to his own people.

Now that we have covered the good things about politicians, possibly we can move along to some of their less desirable traits?

Hey tired, looking at your age, there is a good possibility we shared some time in the Corps together. I was in from '69 to '79. I saw your refrence to 29 Palms (Stumps). Supply depot as I recall. I never got there, I was primarly a wing wiper over my 10 years with some time as a recruiter. Also some time in a VIP Naval command. That was followed by another 10 years of DOD time.

Tired, and all our members. Please do have a safe holiday weekend. During the picnics, bar-b-ques and like, just take a few moments to remember those who gave all. That is what Memorial Day is really about, take a few moments as we enjoy our freedoms, and remember those who made it possible through giving all.

Hey Ron, I only reference that God forsaken place because my company is now stationed out there, "2/7 Fox" Yeah, "Hot To Trot" who would have ever guessed we would end up out in the lower Mojave desert ? lol
BTW, MY plans for the Memorial Day weekend will be spent down there at the Desert Training Center,(Supply Depot,MY A@# !! lol.Think twice when you NEED something from this Quatermaster !!. lol) yes,we will be remebering many who have gave their live's for this country.
Also, many folks don't know this, But Fox Co. was one of the first to go into Iraq, and lost over 27 soldiers in the first few days of this Battle.
And they have lost many more since then.
I don't mean to brag,or belittle anyone,BUT, Most of the one's I trained , came back on their own 2 feet !
So, there will be many a toast and prayer this up comming weekend.
God bless our troops, and may they return as soon as they are not needed. And may they return in good shape.

I was not aware of Fox in Iraq, but then I am not as on top of things as I once was.

F Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment, U.S. Marines in Vietnam 1965-1971
They had a hell of a record in Vietnam:

Marine Grunts

You may enjoy the link.

This is a good page on one of your own:

Fallen Heroes Memorial: Marine Staff Sgt. Daniel J. Clay

Seems funny looking back now. We were so young in Nam and look at us today. Then I look at our Marines (and the rest) in Iraq and again, looking so young. Great outfit to be proud of, give our Marines my best wishes and as always...
